Blue runway lights11/30/2023 ![]() ![]() In reality, all lights on an airfield are essential to the safe and efficient aircraft operations during takeoff, landing, and taxiing. “Hopefully the two people piloting the plane,” I joked. “Who knows what all those lights are for?” he asked. The gentleman next to me appeared mesmerized by the collage of lights on the airfield. It got worse.During an evening return flight from New York City to Portland, Maine, I gazed out the side window of the aircraft as we taxied to the end of one of JFK’s runways for takeoff. I hope I’am completely wrong my aim is not to push pesimism but every single update I feel disappointment.Ī single taxiway sign issue marked as fixed but we all see what we see !! It’s only a taxiway issue nothing more than shape and size. I fear if we are gonna have more bugs with the release of Xbox ? I think on a single platform it’s simple to fix things but on a double sided platform a fix is causing bug on other side. I believe MS / ASOBO can’t make us happy without seperating Xbox and PC because of software/hardware balancing/limiting issues. I tried a lot to be optimistic from release but day after day we don’t see real progress even on major missing parts: No TCAS - No single study level plane - No high level working A/Pilot - No fully working wheather - Pixelated textures on clouds (Supposed to be fixed !!!) - terrain and airport environment - Bad huge taxiway signs (Supposed to be fixed !!!) - More and more… A looog list. We can pay more if it’s money related but they need to decide. Asobo should decide wheter is it a game or sim or lets say if there is a way to divide completely this into two as PC MSFS and XBOX MSFS please consider this. I don’t want to feel the effects (downgrade on realism and visual side) of other platform that I don’t even consider trying. ![]() I don’t have a deep knowledge about softwares but if it’s related balance between PC and Xbox version I think that at some point we will be slowly run out of patience. We need to have some more default features. I can’t buy add on payware products for every single airport. How on earth does on a flight sim we have such weak clouds and bad looking lights (both runway and night city lighting) ? We see blue taxiway lights from above (We shouldn’t on most occasions) We don’t have a basic form of apron night lightings. Whatever the reality, it is clear that these lights at least, are not at the same horizontal angle as the threshold.Įxactly. MSFS makes all these level with the runway threshold, leading to some very high poles below the lights, (as on the opposite end of this runway). They follow the slope at this end, which is fairly flat - foreshortening makes it look extreme, but in fact the difference between the 2 runway ends are less than 30ft. Notice the Approach lights on Leeds/Bradford. On the ground is a different matter - I’m certainly no fan of the sometimes random looking placement of the huge edge markers. They are at least mono directional where they need to be, and the overall feel from the air is not too terrible. (EGNM) Note that the MSFS representation is indeed undulating, rather than the discrete slopes on the real thing.Īs for the lights. I remember RAF Ascension Island / Wideawake being a little worrying - note slope and volcano! (FHAW)Īnd this one looks a little ropey! It is Leeds Bradford Airport. ![]() Real runways tend to be engineered to be flat of course, but will contour over slopes as in the examples below.
